A Fresh Look, A Better Experience: Our Website Redesign Journey

Redesigning a website is a chance to rethink how your site functions, how users interact with it, and how well it supports your organization’s goals. When we began our website redesign, we saw it as an opportunity to improve performance, enhance the user experience, and better reflect our brand direction. Along the way, we encountered valuable lessons that can help any organization considering a redesign.

Why We Chose to Redesign
Websites age quickly. We wanted a site that felt modern and intuitive, worked seamlessly across devices, and reflected our evolving brand identity. We noticed a disconnect between where our brand was heading and the current image that we were presenting. We also saw an opportunity to improve how we organized content. Our goal was to make it easier for visitors to find what they need while ensuring that our messaging remained clear, engaging, and consistent with our brand.

Planning with Purpose
Before any design work began, we took a step back to evaluate our current site. This planning phase was critical to setting the project up for success. Our process included:

  • Gathering feedback from users and stakeholders
  • Conducting a full site audit to identify outdated content and user pain points
  • Removing outdated content
  • Revising content that would be transferred to the new site
  • Mapping out a new site structure and timeline for development

Content Revision
A redesign is the perfect time to revisit your content. We took a hard look at every page, simplifying language, removing redundancies, and updating information. Key considerations:

  • Make content more concise and easier to scan
  • Create clear calls to action
  • Remove outdated or redundant information
  • Incorporate SEO best practices to improve visibility

Designing for the User
With a plan in place and clearly defined goals, we moved into the design phase. We partnered with blueModus, a design and development agency, to bring our vision to life on the Xperience by Kentico SaaS platform. This powerful solution allowed us to meet our current needs and provided the capability for future enhancements and integrations post-launch.

This phase was where the majority of the work took place. Over the course of several months, we met regularly with the blueModus team to ensure that every design decision—from color palette to page layout—supported both form and function. Once we were happy with the proposed design, we were able to begin adding our revised content to the new site in preparation for launch. Be prepared to spend a fair amount of time in this phase as you get comfortable working in a new content management system and learn the new structure of your site.

Testing
Before going live, we put the site through rigorous testing to ensure everything worked as intended. This included:

  • User testing to validate navigation and usability
  • Cross-browser and mobile testing for accessibility
  • Performance optimization to ensure fast load times

What Comes After Launch
While the launch of our new site was a significant milestone, it was not the end of the redesign process. Since going live, we continue to monitor analytics, implement SEO best practices, and make iterative improvements to our content to provide the best possible experience for the end user.

What We Learned
One of the biggest lessons we learned from this journey is the value of collaboration. From the very beginning phases all the way to the final launch, this project brought together a diverse group of contributors who each played a vital role in the overall success of the redesign. We also learned the value of flexibility. When schedules conflict or something doesn't turn out exactly as you planned, being able to adapt and stay on track is essential. That mindset helped us navigate challenges, stay aligned as a team, and ultimately deliver a website that met our goals. More importantly, it reminded us that great digital experiences are built not just with the right tools, but with the right people working together toward a shared vision.
